Tell Congress: Abolish the U.S. Department of Education

Messages Sent So Far

Members of Congress need to abolish the Department of Education and get the federal government out of our schools.

Sign the petition and tell your U.S. Representative and Senators to support and pass H.R. 899, a bill that includes a single sentence that states, "The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2018.”

Education is not the responsibility of the federal government, but the responsibility of parents first and communities second. The absolute highest level of civil authority over education permitted under the Constitution is State government.

The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution states "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people." I challenge anyone to find anything in the Constitution that could be construed as delegating control of education to the federal government, or prohibiting the states from regulating education. The DOE is unconstitutional and should be abolished.

YESS !!!! It's about time........Johnson's "Great America" was about the worst Government policy ever enacted. Public education has been on a downhill decline since then.

The Public Sector has had enough of seeing School Taxes go up and up and the education of children continues to go down and down! Enough, abolish the Dept. of Education and send it back to the States and local control.

The farce of education in the public sector must be gutted so that children can receive an education, not indoctrination into ignorance.

Long overdue. Our education and public schools have been in free fall ever since Lyndon Johnson was president. We need to go back to home rule and let communities, parents and businesses run our schools. Get rid of the NEA while you are at it so we can fire bad teachers and get rid of tenure.

Time for our children to receive a proper education; the control needs to be returned to the parents first, then our local officials. The federal government should never have got involved; Terminated the Department of Education.

What has this department actually done that has enhanced the quality of education in American schools? Answer - absolutely nothing.
