ADA and IDEA existed long before the CRPD and have set the bar for all other laws regarding the treatment of people with disabilities. America is already leading the way. We DO NOT need an international body governing us in this or any other area of our lives. Please, vote NO.

This seems to be another example of how our Constitutional Rights can be over-ridden by international treaties. Congress is our only protector of our Constitutional Rights, please continue to do so.

If this current legislative body is incapable of passing American legislation written by Americans, then it is their duty to step down and hand their position of authority to those who are willing and capable of defending American sovereignty.

Our Constitution's Framers obviously held treaties with foreign nations in high esteem in light of the fact that they put them ON PAR WITH THE CONSTITUTION. When you think of it, there is nothing as radical as that in our Constitution. Amendments have the same power to alter our governmental structure; however, the amendment process if far more difficult than the Senate's ratification of a treaty. Therefore, Congress SHOULD always be extremely cautious, even hesitant, to ratify any treaty because of the great potential for a treaty to wreak havok on our self-government---indeed, on our liberty itself. The CRPD is no exception. The door that it opens for UN bureaucrats to mandate what disability-related laws we must live by SHOULD DISQUALIFY it from ever being ratified by the Senate.

I urge the Senator to vote “No” on ratifying the CRPD. We set the gold standard in disability law without the UN’s help, and we can continue to improve that standard without giving up our principles of self-government. Americans have repeatedly shown our generosity and respect for our fellow man, and I believe we can continue to do that without international babysitters. Ultimately, U.S. domestic policy should be decided in the halls of Congress, not at the U.N.

Why this even has to be debated is beyond me. Let's stop making a mockery of our society and use some common sense for a change.

I saw an interview with the UN Ambassador this week on CBS. She admitted that we have the "gold standard" for laws that protect people with disabilities. Although she admits this, she did not seem to understand that signing this treaty would allow countries with far worse human rights records to dictate policy to us. This would include policies that may directly oppose our U.S. Constitution.
