Tell Congress: Audit the Pentagon!

How can waste be identified and cut when the doors are closed, and books off the table? We have seen billions of tax dollars invested into defense, yet we are unable to judge if those dollars have been effective.

The Department of Defense should not be operating, like anything else in government, secretly; their financial statements should all be made known to the public. This is only proper, since all of their programs are funded by American taxpayers.

Although for certain companies and individuals secrecy has its advantages, an isolated Pentagon does less for national security. How can efficiency be judged? How can waste be identified and cut when the doors are closed, and books off the table? We have seen billions of tax dollars invested into defense, yet we are unable to judge if those dollars have been effective.

It is time for a change. We need a strong Pentagon committed to defending the American People, not one that is weakened by self-service and waste.

It is time for Congress to re-introduce the "Audit the Pentagon Act!"

What supporters of the Audit the Pentagon Act of 2012 had to say:

"By failing to pass an audit, the Pentagon has undermined our national security.  This bill ends the culture of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ budgeting within the Pentagon that says, ‘don’t ask us how we’re spending money because we can’t tell you.’ When the Pentagon can’t tell Congress, or itself, how it is spending money good programs face cuts along with wasteful programs, which is the situation in which we find ourselves today under sequestration.  In short, this bill helps the Pentagon help itself.  Passing an audit is a critical step that will protect vital priorities and help the Pentagon comply with current law and our Constitution.” - Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), bill sponsor.

“I truly believe that the United States of America can – and must – have the greatest military force in the world. But with our Department of Defense paying contractors four times what we’re paying the Secretary of Defense while considering laying off our service members, it’s clear that our priorities are out of balance,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), cosponsor

TAKE ACTION WITH CONSERVATIVE ACTION ALERTS AND DEMAND THAT CONGRESS REINTRODUCES AND PASSES THE "AUDIT THE PENTAGON ACT" IN THE 113th CONGRESS!

Democracy only works when the citizenry has access to information. 10 years and a trillion dollars to chase around a bunch of sheep herders - and to what end. something is very very wrong!

If the Pentagon will Reveal the True numbers and the American people will hold Congress to the Task of spending appropriately, the Audit could help some.

We need to keep our military the strongest in the world, while getting the most for our tax dollars. Meanwhile, we cannot afford Obama military budget cuts that are not needed if we are reasonable and are aware of wasteful spending. This can be managed by an audit and a balancing of the military budget.
