We wouldn't need to consider an online sales tax if the government would cut out even a small portion of the wasteful spending it is doing. Let's balance the budget and forget all the new taxes!

Why is it that so many politicians love any excuse to raise taxes and will impose incredible burdens on retailers online to comply with sales tax collections and remittances to thousands of jurisdictions. I can see what is coming. There will be so much push back from from the small online retailers that you will later relent by establishing a national sales tax payable to only one claimant, Uncle Sam, who will remit the money to the states at his pleasure. Sure seems like a good way to initiate a national sales tax, at least from a political perspective. This is akin to Obamacare eventually making a single provider system the only option after too many opt out of healthcare because the premiums are too high. The "Affordable Care Act" is just as misnamed as the "Marketplace Fairness Act". Both are intrinsically flawed for the same reason: to convince American voters that they need more centralized regulation courtesy of Washington D.C.

The marketplace fairness act instead if raising revenue for the states will have the effect of putting small businesses out if business. Margins are small enough as it is. Adding more taxes to small business will break the camel's back.

If this is a true Marketplace Fairness Act the taxes collected would be given to the so-called brick and mortar stores that are losing revenues to better business models. I hear no mention of that, so it is safe to say that the big government cronies are going after a new revenue stream to be paid for by the middle clas yet again and to be futher mismanaged by Wasington's elite class that think American citizens should work themselves to the bone and be given a small allowance to live on at the discretion of Big Brother. Wake up people and demand control of the hard money you work for. Only then will power be restored and properly placed where it belongs. Back in the hands of the American citizens.

This will probably cut some parcel post revenue pushing the post office to increase mail rates again and again.
