Tell Congress: Stop "Free" Taxpayer Funded Cell Phones!

Dead people don't just vote in elections, they also get "free" smart phones and free monthly minutes courtesy of the federal government and taxpayers.

“The president offers you free stuff, but his policies keep you poor. For those who are struggling, we want to you to have something infinitely more valuable than a free phone.” – Sen. Rand Paul, Tea Party Response to the State of the Union

Dead people don’t just vote in elections, they also get “free” smart phones and free monthly minutes courtesy of the federal government and taxpayers.

It’s shocking, but true.

In fact, millions of individuals are receiving so-called “free” government phones and phone plans – though as many as 41% of the recipients can’t even prove that they are even eligible to receive them.

The program that was created during the Reagan administration to provide emergency land-line service for the poor and help them find jobs, Lifeline,  has now become a program full of fraud and waste, even Obama’s FCC admits to.

“The FCC, itself, said in a recent year there were 270,000 beneficiaries that had more than one of these subsidized cell phones,” Senator Vitter says, “That's completely against the law right there.”

What’s worse is that all Americans who pay a phone bill are forced to contribute to this terrible government program.

Attached to every single phone bill is a charge for “Universal Service” which telecom companies collect and transfer the Universal Service Fund – the government fund that pays for Lifeline and its sister Link-up.

The government must stop forcing the American people to finance this wasteful and immoral system – especially as individuals and lawmakers are lobbying for the program’s indefinite expansion, wanting to cover things like broadband internet.

Relief provisions for the impoverished among us should be left to private organizations, charities, churches, and shelters – groups that are built to handle real needs and are voluntary.

The government needs to be stopped from forcing every phone-bill-paying American to subsidize their failing program in the name of helping the needy. Lawmakers must fight to curtail and eliminate Lifeline altogether, and they can start cutting its “free” cell phone service.

Take Action and Demand Congress to PASS the “Stop Taxpayer Funded Cell Phones Act of 2013” and oppose all legislation that would expand Lifeline!

If Obama wants the taxpayers' to pay for free cell phones, why don't he put the $716 Billion back into our Social Security?

If we feel compelled to provide phones for safety reasons, land lines with free minutes would certainly suffice. I am sick of seeing Obama Phones being sold at swap meets all over America by those that ALWAYS take advantage of our generosity. There are no controlling agencies keeping a count. Now they are considering 'SMART" phones? OMG, here I sit with my dumb phone, but paying for those who pay NO TAXES to tote the expensive phones, or they trade them for DRUGS. Brilliant GOV. Boys!!! Oh well it's OPM, right?

I'm so glad to finally see an organized effort to stop this abuse of the American taxpayer. I fume every time I see a local ad offering a "free" cell phone. I am appaled that this now also applies to SMART phones.

I understand the need for some of these phones, but like other programs; no one to control the waste.

Why do we have to pay for this too? I bet if we knew who received these we would be even more angry.
