Greetings, Due to the recent events at Sandy Hook elementary school we now face renewed threats to our Constitutional rights. While I understand how painful the loss must be for those touched by this tragedy, blaming firearms or their owners and punishing them is not the answer to the challenges we face as a nation. We already have laws that were violated by a man who was likely psychotic and heavily medicated. This man was stopped by the mandatory background check from purchasing firearms. He then decided to murder his mother and take her legally owned firearms to commit this tragedy. If your true goal is to protect our children, then enact legislation that will do that. Banning firearms that are rarely used in crime (less than 1% of the time) is not going to stop such tragedies, that was proven in 1999 when the Columbine shooting took place under the 1994 ban. Do something meaningful, please. Make committing the insane easier. Put armed security guards in our schools. Remove the anti gun signs from the schools, which seem to make our children targets... Do not strip us of our rights and property by passing additional anti-gun laws that have historically had no positive effect on crime in our nation or others. Please ask yourself one question... Would you feel better if you had a sign in your yard or on your door that states that your home is a gun free zone??? You may live in an area that you have protection within seconds... Unfortunately all of our schools don't have this kind of protection... Our children deserve the best protection we as a nation can give them in our SCHOOLS!!! Honest law abiding citizens shouldn't be penalized for what a criminal does... Thank you for your time and understanding my concern with additional bans...REPORT COMMENTS

It's as simple as Miller vs US and reaffirmed in Heller vs DC...the types of firearms specifically protected by the Second Amendment, which is an individual right to keep AND BEAR arms, are in fact MILITARY arms (arms useful for military service). Politicians and judges may not like that the individual citizen is supposed to rank higher than them in the hierarchal structure of the Republic, but that was and is the intent of the Bill of Rights and Constitution. To attack or subvert ANY of them is to attack or subvert ALL of them. Oh, and the ONLY ONE that says "...SHALL NOT be INFRINGED..." is the first one they must destroy in order to abrogate the rest. This is an insult and assault on Liberty itself. "Don't Comply. Defy and Nullify!"REPORT COMMENTS
