The more layers of government, the more waste and ineffectiveness. Leave education to the local level.REPORT COMMENTS

It is way past the time for the federal government to stop their over reach in a lot of areas. To abolish the Dept of Education would be a start in the right direction. As a society, we cannot afford to support local, state and federal bureaucracies by way of taxes or fees. This is killing the US economy.REPORT COMMENTS

Get rid of the Department of Education and the states should get rid of about 80 to 90 per cent of the administrators in the local school districts. I started school during WWII and received and excellent education in spite of having 43 students in my second grade class. The HUGE administration in my school was one principal and one secretary.REPORT COMMENTS

the responsibility of public education should rest with the people who make up the public - the parents. let them decide what should be taught to their children and what kind of teachers they prefer to have teaching their children. ever since this Department education has been in existence the quality of education has only declined with increasing costs. Leave the job of education up to the parents. Let them choose what they want for their children, not some government bureaucratREPORT COMMENTS

Parents first, then local communities, then States - absolutely no intervention beyond the State level. It's unconstitutional, and it's ruining our children, our country's most precious resource.REPORT COMMENTS

Having worked in the field of Education in Elementary schools in Idaho and Oregon, I certainly it is a totally unworkable situation for the Dept. of Education to oversee Education in all states. Each state should be in total control of their own Dept of Education as well as all Courses of education and also get rid of frivolous courses other than the basics.REPORT COMMENTS

I have always felt that the government should not be involved with our children's education. Their education has not improved since the Federal Government got involved. Our children's education should be a local investment, not Federal. Whenever Government gets into something, it never improves. Health care is a good example. This Common Core is another example. Children are not all alike and their situations differ so they cannot be educated in the same way. Please consider passing H.R. 899.REPORT COMMENTS

Joe Mac Bates, Jr., Irmo, S.C. O.Kay. We are all missing the point by not reading The Last Sentence! This is s NOT about our great lady, Betsy DeVos being fired/removed from office. Thanks to Mr. Delano just returning my phone call, the referenced, "H.R. 899 — a single-sentence bill," will do away with the entire U.S.Department of Education!!! Therefore, terminating her position, too. Please do this!REPORT COMMENTS

While it is true that the "Fed" has interposed itself into far too many areas which should be the purview of the states I tried to modify the letter to say that "I suggest" that you co-sponsor H.R. 899 as I don't feel it appropriate to "demand" such action. I do hope you will help roll back the long standing overreach of the Federal Government and return the power which should have remained that of the various states.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been a public school teacher for 46 years and education has slowly gone downhill during that entire time. Flirty years ago, it was a slow digression, but for the last 15-20 years, the digression has been rapid and given over to pure indoctrination. The indoctrination is pointedly supporting liberal secularism and globalization. This is destructive to the survival of our way of life. Our children will definitely suffer as a result.REPORT COMMENTS
