Tell Congress: Abolish the U.S. Department of Education

Messages Sent So Far

Members of Congress need to abolish the Department of Education and get the federal government out of our schools.

Sign the petition and tell your U.S. Representative and Senators to support and pass H.R. 899, a bill that includes a single sentence that states, "The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2018.”

Education is not the responsibility of the federal government, but the responsibility of parents first and communities second. The absolute highest level of civil authority over education permitted under the Constitution is State government.

We need to get public education out of the hands of the federal government. Common Core is not what it was meant to be. It dumbs the kids down by not challenging them. They don't know multiplication facts, spelling, writing, and respect. Go into the new learning classrooms and you will get angry that they are not learning what is needed for college. Most kids when they graduate from high school today need 2 years in a 2 yr. college to learn what they need to graduate from college.

The DOE is a nightmare and supports the Unions that are holding our school children hostage allowing them to dumb down our educational systems. DOE and EPA should be disbanded.

I agree wholeheartedly. Let's get the US government out of our lives The bureaucracy of the federal government is trying to personally govern our lives. We must allow the state we live in to do that.

I know our senators from Alabama will agree that education is best handled by no government higher than the state governments. I appeal to Rep. Terri Sewell to support disbanding the Department of Education in favor of turning the affairs of education back to the states , cities, counties, and local citizens.

I agree with former President Regan, education belongs in the hands of the people at the local level directly determining what our children need, not in the hands of Washington bureaucrats. The Department of Education should be abolished!

We must abolish the U.S. Department of Education because education will best succeed at the local and state level ... where there is more access for parental involvement, accountability, and necessary flexibility due to local needs and demographics.

Accept your responsibility and abolish federal control of public education! Allow education of our children, our future, to be free from the 'progressive agenda' of the DOE. Let our children be free to learn what true education is all about, instead of governmental indoctrination.

The public schools in Minneapolis are destroying our youth. Damage ranges from complete illiteracy and zero ability to critically analyze ideas, to high school students missing basic mathematical skills such as knowledge of multiplication tables. The system is failing and yet we throw more money into it. The basics of reading, writing and arithmetic are being substituted for a reprehensible social agenda. Ask me about my step-daughter.

Our students are doing poorly in relation to other countries in spite of all of the mandates from the federal government. Not only that, teachers are getting more frustrated every year with all the mandatory paperwork and meetings. Please support H.R. 899 and let the states do what they know is best for their constituents.

I feel too many federal bureaucrats (democrats) want to re-write our history books to fit their agenda. We can't let untruth's about our country be crammed down the throats of our innocent children. They need to be taught, with pride, the values of America. Too many liberal instructors (including foreign teachers) in our American universities are teaching "hate" against our own country, therefore the student unrest on our campuses at this time. Please, while you co-sponsor H.R. - 899, assure that history books used in ALL American classrooms are truthful. And what can be done about these foreign teachers in our schools spreading the hate against our country? Thank you!

Amendment 10 to the Constitution -- "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people." Education is a local issue - not a federal responsibility. Federal education funding to the states has become coercive and needs to end.

The Department of Education is just another way to acquire funding which may not be needed and which will further burden our overtaxed citizens. It's just another bureaucracy that needs to be eliminated.
